Aneta Wnek  MCAT, AThR, BDes

I am a Master’s-qualified and ANZACATA-registered Creative Arts Therapist, researcher, arts practitioner and facilitator based in Perth. Before training as a Creative Arts Therapist, I worked for many years as a creative director and designer. Much of this work involved supporting not-for-profit organisations to communicate their purpose, share their brand stories and centre the lived experiences of the people they support. My experience as both an employee and small-business owner has given me an understanding of the pressures that can accompany work, leadership and self-employment. Working in marketing and advertising also gave me insight into the ways technology, media and cultural narratives shape how we see ourselves, our lives and our bodies. These interests later informed my Master’s arts-based research and thesis, *Exploring self-perception and body image through charcoal life-drawing with a group of non-artist women*. As a child migrant from Poland, I experienced the challenges of finding my place in a new culture, learning a new language, and navigating identity and belonging. This experience strengthened my interest in the ways people come to understand themselves, how these understandings are shaped by relationships and culture, and how creativity can support more authentic ways of being. This curiosity led me to Creative Arts Therapy. I value its capacity to engage the whole person – thoughts, emotions, body, imagination and lived experience. Creative processes and materials can offer pathways into emotional expression and embodied awareness, particularly where experiences may be difficult to articulate in words alone. They can support people to approach challenging experiences safely, develop capacity, and make space for reflection, integration and change. I believe that people hold an innate capacity for healing and growth. In the aftermath of trauma, loss, adversity or significant life transitions, there can still be opportunities for new understanding, connection and possibility. I am particularly interested in supporting adults navigating trauma, life transitions, burnout, identity and self-esteem concerns, body image challenges, and questions of meaning and purpose. My practice is informed by person-centred, trauma-informed and embodied approaches, including contemporary understandings of nervous system regulation, somatic awareness and post-traumatic growth. Above all, I strive to offer a therapeutic space where people feel seen, heard and accepted as they are, and supported as they work towards their therapeutic goals.
